We examined associations between childhood temperamental activity, physical activity (PA), and television (TV) viewing over a 30-year period. The participants (1220 boys and 1237 girls) were aged 3, 6, 9, and 12 years in 1980 and were followed until 2011. Temperamental activity was evaluated by participants' mothers at baseline. The PA was assessed based on maternal ratings of the child from ages 3 to 6 and via self-report age from the age of 9 across all measurements. TV viewing was assessed using self-reports taken from 2001 to 2011. Fungal hyphal growth and branching are essential traits that allow fungi to spread and proliferate in many environments. This sustained growth is essential for a myriad of applications in health, agriculture, and industry. However, comparisons between different fungi are difficult in the absence of standardized metrics. Here, we used a microfluidic device featuring four different maze patterns to compare the growth velocity and branching frequency of fourteen filamentous fungi. Monitoring barley and corn growth from remote sensing data at field scale

Vegetation indices have been used for operational quantitative monitoring of vegetation. Here, corn and barley cultures have been used to relate meaningful biophysical parameters such as dry biomass and Crop Growth Rate (CGR) to the well-established Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). We explain these relationships by means of the use of the Light Use Efficiency (LUE) models, based on the positive relation between primary production and Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (APAR). Existence and uniqueness of a solution for a parabolic quasilinear problem for linear growth functionals with $L^1$ data

We introduce a new concept of solution for the Dirichlet problem for quasilinear parabolic equations in divergent form for which the energy functional has linear growth. Using Kruzhkov's method of doubling variables both in space and time we prove uniqueness and a comparison principle in $L^1$ for these solutions. To prove the existence we use the nonlinear semigroup theory.

Abstract We consider the partial differential equation u - f = div ( u m ∇ u | ∇ u | ) u-f=\operatornamewithlimits{div}\biggl{(}u^{m}\frac{\nabla u}{|\nabla u|}% \biggr{)} with f nonnegative and bounded and m ∈ ℝ {m\in\mathbb{R}} . We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions for both the Dirichlet problem (with bounded and nonnegative boundary datum) and the homogeneous Neumann problem. Solutions, which a priori belong to a space of truncated bounded variation functions, are shown to have zero jump part with respect to the ℋ N - 1 {{\mathcal{H}}^{N-1}} -Hausdorff measure. Results and proofs extend to more general nonlinearities.
Polynomial identities on superalgebras: Classifying linear growth

Abstract We classify, up to PI-equivalence, the superalgebras over a field of characteristic zero whose sequence of codimensions is linearly bounded. As a consequence we determine the linear functions describing the graded codimensions of a superalgebra.
Nonlinear economic growth: Some theory and cross-country evidence

Abstract This paper aims to test the existence of different growth regimes, that is of different relationships between growth rate and income level. We propose a simple nonlinear growth model and test its empirical implications by estimating Markov transition matrices and stochastic kernels. We show that growth is indeed nonlinear: a first phase of slow or zero growth is followed by a take-off and, finally, by a phase of deceleration. We discuss the relevance of these results with respect to the issue of convergence and reversibility of development, in the light of models of structural change and technological diffusion.
Tracking of Television Viewing Time during Adulthood: The Young Finns Study.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the tracking of television viewing (TV) time as an indicator of sedentary behavior among adults for a period of 25 yr. Methods: A random sample of 1601 subjects (740 men) age 18, 21, and 24 yr participated in the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study in 1986. TV time during leisure time was measured with a single self-report question at baseline and in 2001, 2007, and 2011.
